Style Inspiration: What to pack for your summer getaway?

So, we're fast approaching Memorial Day, the unofficial start of summer, and you've planned a getaway that includes a visit to somewhere warm but can't figure out what to pack. Use this checklist to make sure you have the essentials for your summer getaway.

  • A straw hat, a fedora or pork pie hat offer chic protection from the sun plus it's breathable www.bloomingdales.com

  • Sunglasses, make sure they have 100% UV protection

  • Sunscreen, broad-spectrum with an SPF 30 or higher

  • Light fragrance, summer fragrances should be subtle and fresh www.pouted.com

  • Short sleeve shirts, think polos or casual button downs with cool prints

  • T-shirts, a basic piece that's versatile

  • A light jacket or long sleeve shirt for those cool nights

  • Bracelets, it's the cousin to the watch and needs to be represented too

  • Watch with nylon straps that can be replaced; take a couple to accent your look each day www.jcrew.com

  • Shorts, I like them just above the knee. Not too short, not too long.

  • Summer-weight Chinos, the cotton is a lighter weight than standard chinos and are perfect for warm/hot weather www.bonobos.com

  • No-show socks, protect your shoes and keep your feet dry www.na-nyc.com

  • Slip-on sneakers, they are versatile and cool; can be worn to the beach or bumming around town

  • Loafers or deck shoes

  • Lightweight sneakers for working out, in case you get the urge to go running

  • Headphones for zoning out, wireless are best, no cords to get tangled!

  • A good book to get lost in and help you relax

  • A flask, bring your fun along; fill with your favorite spirit and keep it handy

  • A cigar cutter, you may want to light up while you're watching the waves roll in and like a good boy scout, you should always be prepared!

  • A great leather or canvas weekender bag to put it all in www.filson.com
